• Helps the most basic needs of children: food, clothing, education and medical. These children have almost nothing and the government can not help them. All of the donations will go directly to the orphanages.
• The DSH have been running orphanages for over 100 years. Not only are they well- operated, but it shows this is a long-term commitment for them.
• The orphanages are run mostly by sisters who are from the local country. This can be an advantage in that they truly understand the local needs and customs, and they can be accessible role models.
• The sisters are trained for as long as eight years. While the needs are great, the DSH order does not shortchange the development of the sisters. This has a very positive impact on the children. They are also de-facto leaders in their local community, helping out with many of the problems such as caring for the needy and providing resources like water.
• There is an emphasis on teaching the orphans to be strong and virtuous as they grow older to enable them to be leaders also. They are given moral and spiritual formation, education and training for employment at the proper age.
• One can give a little or a lot. A few dollars provides more milk. Thousands allows more desperately needy children to be served by the sisters.

• Tuition - secondary school: $600 per year
• Tuition - primary school: $100 per year
• Books and school supplies per child: $75 per year
• Soaps (laundry and bathing) for 50 children: $68 per month
• Visit to medical clinic: $13
• Milk for 50 children per day: $7
